The prothonotary is the court clerk for civil matters in Pennsylvania's counties (while the clerk of courts is the clerk for criminal matters). The prothonotary files and maintains judicial records and processes filing fees.
Application GuidelinesIf you would like to be included on the ballot for county office, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county elections office. The elections office can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. The filing deadline shown is for third party and independent candidates. Major party candidates must meet earlier deadlines to participate in the primary.
