Sanitary Districts are managed by local citizens elected to serve on governing boards. The boards are responsible for the use of public funds put toward the construction and maintenance of drainage, sewage, or sanitary systems for the district. The boards may also be responsible for passing rate proposals and developing other monetary policies related to the district's sewers and other pieces of drainage infrastructure. The compensation per meeting is $150 for this position.

Application Guidelines
To file for this position follow these three simple steps: 1) Contact the Alameda County Registrar of Voters office at (888) 280-7708 to verify that your address qualifies for the position, and to see if there are any other requirements that might prevent you from running (residency within the district for a certain period of time is frequently a requirement). 2) Obtain the appropriate filing papers from the elections office, usually found with the County Clerk, however the County Clerk may direct you to contact the district directly. Ask the county for a phone number or suggestion on how to speak with the district. Smaller districts can be very difficult to get in touch with, but the county office should have a point of contact at the district. 3) Submit the candidacy papers within the 113-88 day filing window prior to the election to the appropriate office (sometimes this is the county, but other times it is the district directly). Prior to submitting your candidacy papers, you should arrange an appointment with the County Clerk (or other election administrator) to make sure that you have the correct amount of petition signatures or application fee (when applicable).
