The school board has a wide variety of additional responsibilities, such as adopting annual budgets and issuing interim financial reports, adopting the school calendar, negotiating contracts with employees (including the hiring of superintendents), approving curriculum materials and closing or constructing schools. Oregon school boards are often composed of 5 to 7 members, and the candidate must be a registered elector within the district for a minimum of 180 days prior to the election.
Application GuidelinesTo file for this position follow these three steps. 1) Contact the elections office in the county that you reside in to verify that your address qualifies for the position and that you meet any other requirements. 2) Arrange to obtain the filing documents from the elections office, and double check with them filing paperwork submission dates. It is understood that first time or beginning candidates may need someone to review the paperwork with them, so it is useful to stop by the office in person during normal business hours, or arrange a time that you can speak with someone while picking up the filing papers. 3) Submit the filing papers and any other necessary documents to the city clerk/secretary during the filing window, which will be 101-61 days prior to the election.
